Appellation Guide: Lamezia DOC (Calabria, Italy)
Lamezia DOC is a small area situated around the town of Lamezia in Calabria. Like in other DOCs of Calabria, red wines are generally produced with a combination of Gaglioppo, Greco Nero and / or Magliocco.
Most producers are small in size. Antonio and Alberto Statti produce around 45,000 bottles of Lamezia rosso from 10 hectares. The nose is intense and complex, with notes of black cherry, plum, cocoa, tobacco and spices. In the mouth it combines a rustic structure with prominent acidity and healthy layers of black fruit and wood.
