Grape Guide: Roscetto

Synonyms: Rosetto, Greco di Velletri, Greco Giallo, Greco Verde

Roscetto is a very rare white grape vaiety cultivated in central Italy. There is very little information available about it but given the grape's synonyms we could be forgiven for thinking that it is related to the Greco grape found all over the east of Campania. But not so.

Roscetto is grown mainly in Lazio and is permitted in the DOC wines of Colli Etruschi Viterbesi DOC as well as a small amount in Est Est Est DOC. The most recongised commercial example of the wine is Falesco's 'Ferentano' label, bottled simply as a Lazio IGP wine.

The general feeling is that Roscetto's low yields make it commercially unappealing for growers and as such, there is very little of it around.
