Grape Guide: Roupeiro
Roupeiro is grown in the Alentejo region of Portugal where it is used mainly as a blending partner with other white grape varieties such as Antão Vaz, Arinto and Viognier.
It is also grown in the Beiras where it is known as Síria.
Roupeiro is used by many producers because, in their youth, the wines can give very exotic flavours of melon and citrus and can give some added fruit flavours to a blend. It is not often favoured for wines that are designed to age because of it's tendency to oxidise quicker than other grapes.
