Producer Guide: Azienda Agricola Mauro Franchino (Lombardy, Italy)

Low yields, old vines! This is good stuff, a very boutique winemaking operation worth looking out for. In 1967 just three hectares were planted with Nebbiolo in the Gattinara area of Lombardia. Today the wines are complex, ethereal and worthy of solid praise.

Mauru Franchino himself ferments the wines in concrete vats before ageing them in large slavonian oak casks.

Gattinara DOCG 2011 by Az. Ag. Mauro Franchino Attractive floral nose of violets with some lavender and perfume in support. The palate is racy with textured red fruit that offers up a prolonged, spicy finish with a cool, attitude.
