Region Guide: Danube Terraces, Romania

Wine has been an integral part of life around the Danube for thousands of years and in stretch of river that runs through South West Romania, it's no different today. Although the region relies financially on the cultivation of table grapes, there is a growing sector of of commercial winemaking.

At the moment much of these wines are white and of table wine quality only. There are hopes that these wines will move towards the new but important appellation for the region, Terasele Dunarii.

Arguably the most important sub region of the Danube Terraces is Dobrogea.
