Wine journalism has changed over the years. The endless amount of 'open diaries' as one American merchant once called them have the lead to a diluting of impact. Good writing in the wine field is scarce. Yes, there are still some very important crtics out there but in general, the culture of 'experts' has been trashed. Anyone can do anything is the mantra we're riled into following. Except of course they can't. It takes a tremendous amount of effort, work, travel, money, creativity and sacrifice to aquire the knowledge and contacts to be able to give context to wine, to contribute to a serious discussion on the subject.
