The Black Sea region of Bulgaria is of increasing importance and now hosts around 30% of Bulgaria's vineyards. As the name suggests it covers the Black Sea coastline and the area of Ludogorie. Proximity to the sea has a profound influence on the climate here meaning summers are hot and winters are mild. Varieties such as Dimyat, Muscat Ottonel, Rkatsiteli, Traminer, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Aligote and Ugni Blanc are planted while red varieties are mainly represented by Pamid, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Salla Estate: Salla Estate produce wines around the village of Blaskovo from about 30 hectares. White varieties dominate but around 60km from Varna, the local red skinned Varnenski Misket can be found.
