Imreti is one of the key wine regions in Georgia. Sitting in the centre of the country and largely based around the town of Kutaisi, Imreti is an important area and one of the most internationally recognised winemaking areas in Georgia.
The region is broken down into 11 districts.
Visually Imreti is very green, the lush humidity somewhat similar to that of South East Asia.
In the west of the region, red varieties such as Tsolikouri, Aladasturi, Tsitska are cultivated.
In the east of the region Dzelshavi, Tsitska, Tsolikouri, Kvishkhuri are grown.
In the centre of the region there are plantings of Tsolikouri, Tsitska, Krakhuna, Otskhanuri Sapere and Dzelshavi.
There are other local varieties found here too although are some way off making wines of international repute. Whites include Kapistoni, Dondghlabi, Bazaleturi and Kundza while reds include Argvetuli sapere, Adanasuri, Shavi Dondghlabi and Vanis Chkaveri.
