Rustic red grape variety grown predominantly in Piedmont but found increasingly elsewhere, particularly in the new world. It's known as Ormeasco in Liguria.
Dolcetto is a divisive grape. With naturally high acidy, fresh cherry flavours and a crunchy mouthfeel it's either admired or dismissed as thin and tart. Dolcetto's heyday in the 1970s and 1980s has been and gone and production has steadily decreased.
