In Chablis AOC, Premier Cru vineyards occupy a narrow band of slopes that rise along the banks of the Serein River, where exposure and limestone soils allow Chardonnay to ripen with greater consistency and elegance. These sites, forty in total and grouped into a smaller number of recognised climats, produce wines that sit between the precision of village level Chablis and the power and concentration of the Grand Crus. The result is Chardonnay that combines tension and mineral clarity with a broader texture and greater capacity to age.
