Re-publish & re-use terms
Plain-language summary of what subscribers may do with my tasting notes, scores and score badges. The headline rule: scores are written without any commercial relationship in mind. The subscription is not for the score — it is for access to the content and the right to re-use it.
Independence
All tasting notes and scores are written by Paul Caputo, working alone, based on tasting alone. Whether a wine is reviewed and what score it receives is independent of any subscription, free or paid. Anyone can submit a sample for review at no cost.
A subscription does not influence what I write. If a subscriber ever believes otherwise, please tell me directly.
What a subscription includes
Reader
- Read the full tasting notes and scores for every reviewed wine on the site.
- Read all subscriber-only articles, reports and vintage guides.
- Receive the monthly newsletter.
No re-publish rights. The content is for the subscriber’s personal reading.
Trade
Everything in Reader, plus:
- Embed the wine score “shield” SVG on listings for wines you stock or sell.
- Quote excerpts from my reviews — verbatim, no edits — in trade communications, with attribution.
- Use the score badge on shelf-talkers and promotional materials, with attribution.
Producer
Everything in Reader, plus:
- Read the full tasting note for your own wines from inside your dashboard.
- Download a branded score certificate (PDF + image) for each scored wine.
- Embed the score “shield” SVG on your website.
- Use the score badge in print marketing — point of sale, brochures, trade-fair stands.
- Quote excerpts from the tasting note — verbatim, no edits — in your marketing, with attribution.
Attribution
Wherever you quote a review or display a score, you must include a clear attribution. The minimum form is:
Reviewed by Paul Caputo · paulcaputo.wine · Read the full review at [link to the wine’s page]
Online uses must link to the wine’s page on paulcaputo.wine. Print uses must include the URL of the wine’s page or the site’s root URL paulcaputo.wine.
What is not permitted
- Editing, abridging or paraphrasing my words. Quotes must be verbatim.
- Removing attribution.
- Using a score or excerpt to imply endorsement of a product I have not reviewed (e.g. a different vintage, a different cuvée).
- Sub-licensing the content to third parties. The licence is for the subscribing organisation only.
- Aggregating scores from multiple reviewers in a way that obscures which one wrote which.
- Using my name or wordmark in a way that implies a partnership, sponsorship or commercial endorsement.
When in doubt, email me before publishing. I’m glad to help you get it right.
Renewal & lapse
Subscriptions and the re-use rights they grant renew annually. You can cancel from your account settings at any time.
When a subscription lapses, new uses of the content require an active subscription. Items already produced — printed materials, certificates already downloaded — remain usable; you just may not create new uses (new web embeds, new print runs, new excerpts) until the subscription is reactivated.
Complimentary subscriptions
Complimentary subscriptions are issued at my discretion. If you have been told a complimentary subscription has been arranged for your account, no payment is required and the access and licence terms in this document apply unchanged.
